Portsdown hill (The Hill) forms part of the
South Downs, A Chalk based hill system, and stands at over 200 feet above sea level.
The fort's that stand proud of the
hill are a monument to British engineer's over the centuries, Built in the
1860's as part of the British defences against the French, they stood mainly
unused.
Looking from the City Right to Left.
- Fort Nelson - Open.
- Fort Southwick.
- Fort Widley - The Largest.
- Fort Purbrook - Holds many functions and
Faye's.
The Hill is also home to one of
the hardest golf course's in the Area, Crookhorn Golf Course'. This is due to
the slope that you are playing on and the amount of obstacles.

- The 'George' Public House
- The 'Centurion' Public House
- The Forts.
- Q.A. Hospital
- Views of The City, Isle of Wight and
the South Downs.
- Wessex Superbowl (10 pin Bowling ally)
- Access:
- A3 (London to Portsmouth)
- A27 (at Fareham or Bedhampton)

- Things to do:
- Visit one of the Fort's
- Take a Walk around the area. It has
some picturesque Views, natural wildlife and wild flowers.
- Eat and Drink ? With free parking
along most of the hill it provide's a great place to stop and unwind, most
car parks have a ice cream and snack van all summer, and the main 'View
Point' offers all year round food provided by Mick's Burgers (a local
company that has site's over most of Portsmouth, so he doesn't serve muck)

- The 'Centurion' offers the best
views of both the City and the surrounding area.
