The Gunwharf site viewed from Old
Portsmouth
A New development bringing Portsmouth 310 new homes and a retail outlet
(Centre) for a
number of new stores. Planed opening was November 2000 most of the homes are
already finished and are currently being sold as soon as they become available.
The Shops are Now open (Started Feb 2001).
The site is built on what was once the heart of the dock's storage yard,
Mainly ammunition storage (thus the name). This
became unused (and unusable as the years went on) so the developers moved in.
Not shown in the above photo is the Spinnaker Tower,
a new project that was due to open to mark the Millennium, which one you may ask,
well this one, but as of December 2002 it has only got to the footings stage, in t 2003
the population of Portsmouth asked 'Why build it?'

- Things to do:
- Take a boat trip around the harbour.
- Visit one of the excellent bar's and restaurants in the area.

- Parking:
- 1500 Parking Space's are available at the retail Park.
- WARNING: It has been known that after leaving your vehicle here you may
find that you are unable to gain access back in to your own car. For some
unknown reason people's remote controls fail to open the vehicle?

- Parking around the area is a big problem. The building work brings
builders who use the all day parking so you are advised to use public
transport should you wish to visit the area an not queue for the Main Car
Park.

- Or Park on the sea front at Southsea and walk. The walk would include the
Square and Round towers and take you through old Portsmouth. Simply follow
the stone chain pattern set in to the path.
